Tracing the Threads of History and Fantasy

Modesty

Modesty

Steam curls around the figure who welcomes you into the baths, wearing a curious attire of a simple wrap and an elaborately wound scarf that veils her hair and trails down to the floor. Her face is not veiled, but even so obscured by intricate chains.

The Roman Bath Sulis from Del-ka Aedilis includes the various steps expected in a Roman bath, from warm water, a steam room and a cold pool. Here, the baths are repurposed for a more fantastical setting. Perhaps the woman is a priestess welcoming you to temple dedicated to a water goddess? Her look is created using four new releases from We Love Role-Play. The minimal Brynna outfit from Glyph is combined with the headscarf and underscarf from Lethologicas Modesty set, which also includes a face veil and several options for how to combine the scarves. In this case, the resulting look is not very modest, but I like the contrast.

Then we have the Flower face chains by Angelicus, a really interesting look combined with the head scarf. I am also using eye applies from lovelysweet, from a very vivid set called Nightbloom Eyes.

The Horse and Her Woman

The Horse and Her Woman

A quiet homestead by the water, carved out of stone and stubbornness and inhabited by a lone horse and a lone woman.

This is another look from the latest round of We Love Role-Play, this time with a more rugged, northern feel.

The Viking-inspired Brynhildr outfit from Rakshasa brings a grounded, practical aesthetic, with layered textures and details that feel lived-in. Patterned trousers and a belted tunic, fur details on both the tunic and the boots, take clear inspiration from more recent looks at what some Vikings may have worn. Paired with the mature Gina skin from Poema, the overall look shifts away from idealised youth and into something more weathered, someone shaped by the same landscape she inhabits.

The simple hut from Del-ka Aedilis sits naturally against the cliffs, while Fanatik’s updated PBR-enhanced Land Shapes package (which you can get an upgrade for if you own it from before!) adds depth and realism to the terrain. Here I have used primarily the islands, but also some boulders. I have also added the new Rocky Shore landscaping, seen at the edge of the water.

Homesteader

Homesteader

Sometimes, a simple and quiet life beckons you.  The Homesteader gown by Grasshopper Street is for those times. Designed as a practical workdress, it comes in both plain and patterned calicos (eight of each), with a contrasting yoke and skirt ruffle and a belt that keeps it neatly cinched at the waist.

The included apron is just as thoughtfully done—a pocketed bib apron that attaches with simple metal pins, available in matching calicos with four mix-and-match sections. The bib can be removed for a half-apron look, making it easy to adapt depending on the task at hand.

Paired with a bonnet and a basket of freshly gathered herbs, it’s easy to imagine the rhythm of daily life drawing water, tending a garden, or preparing remedies at day’s end.  The basket of herbs, and the farmhouse build as a whole, are older but very authentic-feeling releases from Del-ka Aedilis.

The outfit includes both PBR and legacy materials and is fitted for a wide range of bodies. It is available exclusively at The Engine Room (March 20 – April 20) at a 25% discount.

A Prayer to Saturn

A Prayer to Saturn

A beautiful medium-sized Roman temple, here in a small Roman outpost, perhaps somewhere in Britain. The temple is dedicated to Saturn (known as Cronus to the Greeks) and he held sway over matters such as time, wealth and periodic renewal.  It is part of Del-ka Aedilis Roma series which I have shown many other temples from. This one has beautiful lion statutes out front and inside a large statue of the god as well as reliefs on the walls.
